Re: Luanti Documentation project

this would be the best option after a self-hosted Git (e.g. Forgejo) for the Core and Mods. A self-hosted Git would be a terrible option given the track record of self-hosted software (e.g. forums, wiki) we have seen. We simply don't really have experienced web admins who could and would want to do...

Re: [mod] Only a Coin

I don't think the MT logo coin qualifies for CC0, it's a derivative work of the original, which is CC BY-SA 3.0 by erle. You'll have to mark that specifically in your GitHub repository and here before I'll move this to releases.

Re: [Solved] Surge in memory usage by Minetest process (7 GB in just 6 minutes)

... So I was one step closer to a resolution, yet I still needed to determine at which point the bug had been fixed. There were a myriad of commits relating to world border oddities in Minetest 0.4.15, but none of them referenced this issue specifically. I realized the only choice was to work backw...

Re: Feature Suggestion: Texture Packs on Servers

But when you can use a CSM to simulate the texture packs, You can't, the docs explicity say CSMs can't provide textures, and there's no APIs for changing them. why can‘t you turn the system-wide one off so it‘s only chosen by the CSM. I can't really make head or tails of this. I had better not resp...

Re: exe installer for Luanti 5.10.0 (64 bit) [windows]

From my understanding the major problem would be the run in place variable? so where and how do i change it? also i tried downloading nsis but i am not an experienced programmer, i don't have any idea of where to start to be honest nor i know how to compile stuff on my own (yet)... Re: [Solved] Surge in memory usage by Minetest process (7 GB in just 6 minutes)

The issue was solved by applying patches from upstream on top of JT2 engine's 0.4.x base - read about it below.
Spoiler
I was right about upstream, but it was actually from pre-5.0. I was vaguely aware JT2 wasn't based directly on 0.4.17.1 series, but not aware the fork went back as far as 0.4.14.

We also discuss things on IRC at #minetest-docs on irc.libera.chat, which is also bridged to the Discord server as #minetest-docs-irc.
Will you be following suit with the rest of the channels and switching to the Luanti name?

Luanti Documentation project

The Luanti Documentation project is now established, and the team have been working in it for some time. This project replaces the MediaWiki wikis. It now uses GitHub Pages, and contribution is done through GitHub with pull requests, instead of the separate, invite-only account system of the previou...

Re: How to make the password remember for multiplayer?

For those no-trusters it's common to add a checkbox "save password". Yes, the saving is always optional and then I always turn it off/never. You'd have to be mad to suggest it be mandatory, thankfully nobody is. Because it takes too long to run KeePass, find a corresponding entry, copy-pa...

Updates to the renaming: 2025-01-23: Luanti's presence on GitHub has been moved to a new organisation, luanti-org . Any links to e.g. minetest/minetest now point to luanti-org/luanti, among all the peripheral projects like ContentDB, serverlist, minetestmapper (not renamed luanti-mapper). 2025-01-30...

Throwing in my 2c on "optimizing" locale files. This really shouldn't be a goal in most cases, but perhaps you really are hurting for some space. If you want to provide translations then this should not be a goal at all . Yes, while it's worth discussing hypothetically, mangling the trans...

Re: How to make the password remember for multiplayer?

Most of applications that connect to some servers with passwords - these applications usually do have some simple builtin password manager. At least, they remember last password. It's a QoL thing. Why Luanti still doesn't have such a small and important feature - is a huge mystery to me. And I neve...

Given your main server and it not being luantiserver, we can safely assume we're not talking about 5.10. If you check the git logs, there are a few references to leaks being fixed in the 5.x series, which your version may not have.

Is there a way to clean out the unknown node blocks off the entire world? The way this mod works is at the in-game level, where when the requested nodes are l...

Hi everyone, I think a good idea would be to show the change logs when there are mod updates, and to be able to view them in the update menu so you can choose whether to update a mod or leave the current version, it would be useful for the servers, also warning of any incompatibilities with previou...

What you're after is the mt-multiserver-proxy. I can't really offer any advice on it though, as I've never attempted to set one up.

It never stopped being about that, it just went from the one technique you described in OP to mentioning several others. I think that is a good state of affairs.
