Re: Introducing Our New Name
The fastest and safest approach is to just remove the "Minetest/Luanti" text and only keep "Wiki", since the logo already speaks for itself (and we won't change it, at least not in the foreseeable future)

A lot of answers, nice :D
I do agree that Threads on CDB are not there yet, but as a modder I also know I don't want to publish and update my content both on CDB and in here, as it takes twice the time. Personally, in these years I've never looked for any type of content in the forums, and those ...

Re: Is Luanti an engine or just a platform?
When I bring Minetest to conventions I call it a game platform, explaining that a game platform contains both the tools to make games (the engine) and the possibility to play games (like a library). You might argue I'm wrong, and there is actually no official definition. Even Roblox is described on ...

Archiving some forum sections and merging the two wikis into one
These are a couple of ideas that has come up in these days whilst chatting on the Luanti Matrix space.
The first one is about the forums. More precisely, a couple of members of the staff (rubenwardy and I) would like to see a few sections archived (EDIT: me more than rubenwardy):
1. Mods
2. Games

QWERTY Italian keyboard: to do "/" I need to press Shift+7, which doesn't really come spontaneous if I think about "opening chat", so I always go Enter -> Shift+7. For me personally it's not a big thing, considering the benefits; I'm just renouncing to a shortcut I don't even use (and even if I did ...

Re: 2023 Minetest GAME JAM (December 1st-21st) [Theme: "UNEXPECTED"] [$300] jam.minetest.net
By the way: I have to be honest, but I really hated this year's theme. :-( I mostly ignored it (and apparently, many others to), had no real idea what to do with it, so I basically just forced the theme into the story of my game.
Which raises another point: what's the point of giving a theme if ...

I've noticed only now that the vote is entirely community-driven. I find this a very *very* stupid move, as it lets an undefined mass of people choose who has to win. Considering there is also a money prize, I expect people with experience in game design/Minetest to have a saying on these games, not ...

Re: Defragmenting the Minetest community
Matrix should be a first class citizen. An open source game, with open source advocates deserves a focus on open source software.
100 times this (I would have said "free software" but it's not the point)
Supporting Lemmy would send a strong message of support. Open source software stands on ...

Re: Idea: advertisements in ContentDB
The reason why many mods are low quality is because people are making them for fun. Providing an incentive to make mods will significantly increase the quality of mods. There could be a certain percentage of the ad revenue that would go to the engine developers.
That's not true: I know at least ...

Re: How do we increase modder involvement in engine development?
So to raise a PR in minetest, you effectively have to ask very nicely, and wait for very busy core devs (who don't have time to review) to go through the issues and find yours, and support it, not just once, but twice. I don't think you realise how welcoming that is. When people have the ...

First of all, thanks for reaching out, ancientmariner. I'll try to share my 2 cents here as a Minetest staff member (triager, not core dev, but anyway):

Re: Community Voting vs Judges (2023 Jam)
I think the voting system shouldn't be handed to the community. One practical reason is the issue regarding the Minetest new name suggestion: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/13510; where, despite the «names outside the "voxel" and "free/open" nature are encouraged (e.g. Krita, Godot ...
