Getting Started

When you first join the server, you will be provided a selection of free starter items.
Your objective is to farm, mine, trade, and help build the greatest city in an all stone world filled with dangerous mobs! Craft dirt from bones. Then craft a sapling from dirt and an apple. And don't forget to keep an eye on the seasons and the weather, because extreme temperatures can kill you. This includes standing in close proximity to heat-generating nodes like lava, fire, and yes even furnaces.
Basics of Survival:
Weather and temperature both play a crucial role in the survival game mechanic on JT2. It is strongly recommended to wear armor when travelling outdoors particularly during summer and winter when temperature extremes can become dangerous, and potentially even deadly. Wielding a torch, a block of ice, or even a bucket of water can also provide a warming or cooling effect.

The Temp Felt HUD at the bottom left of your screen reflects your perceived temperature. It can be useful to gauge the risk of heatstroke and frostbite, particularly in conjunction with the vignette which warns of temperature extremes with a red or blue tinted overlay. The units can be switched between metric (Celsius) and imperial (Fahrenheit) from either of the weather panels.
The Light Gem HUD at the bottom of your screen is useful for stealth-focused gameplay, whether it be spying, surveillance, or even PvP. When standing in deep shadow, the light gem will turn fully black indicating that you are invisible to most monsters, except for those with night-vision capabilities. Of course, you'll need to cloak your nametag to be effectively covert to other players.
Useful Specialty Items:

The Whistle is an essential tool for coaches and referees to signal timeouts, fouls, and other calls. It has an audible range of 20 meters, so it perfectly suited for a variety of team-related activities. Aside from sports, it can also provide a temporary distraction in the presence of hostile mobs.
The Thermometer affords a quick means of gauging the ambient temperature at a specific location. Ordinarily, this value will coincide with the Temp Felt HUD, unless you are wearing armor or wielding an item that is hot or cold. For convenience, both Celsius and Fahrenheit are displayed.
The Magnifying Glass allows for copying-and-pasting basic node properties including name, owner, description, and position for use with any of the chat commands. It is also a convenient alternative to the Inspection Wand since there is no wear. However, it only works with pointable nodes.
The Inspection Wand allows you to examine the properties of nodes, entities, and even other players. The exact information provided depends on the item or object. It can be particularly useful for submitting bug reports (since unknown nodes and entities are difficult to identify otherwise).
The Protection Wand is used to verify ownership of protected areas, listing the locations of all intersecting protectors as well as members associated with each protector. In order to display the protection boundaries, however, you must manually punch the associated block or badge.
The Teleporter Staff mimics the teleport request chat commands typically found on other survival servers. Select the player you want to teleport to (or to teleport to you) from the drop-down list. Players can use the /tpy or /tpn commands to accept or reject a request within 60 seconds.
Quick Starter Tips:
Below are some tips to get you started on JT2! Of course you can always ask for help from other players as well.
- Starter Tip #1: Stand on one of the Memorial Blocks at Castle Nemo or in the Bell Tower to quickly restore your health and hunger. It's totally free!
- Starter Tip #2: Donations of food, tools, armor, and more can be found in the Chests of Sharing at spawn. Take what you need, give what you don't.
- Starter Tip #3: To avoid the risk of heat stroke and frost bite, you may need to seek shelter indoors, or better yet equip yourself with suitable armor.
- Starter Tip #4: Each grade of armor has certain insulation and conduction capabilities, providing enhanced protection from sources of heat or cold.
- Starter Tip #5: Except for flowers, most plants do not spread naturally. They are typically obtained from mob drops or by trading among other players.
- Starter Tip #6: Watch out for rotten eggs. If you stand too close, the stench will damage you. Rotten eggs are an ideal deterrent against trespassers.
- Starter Tip #7: You can hide your nametag from other players by wearing a costume. It's an easy way to go incognito if you prefer stealth gameplay.
- Starter Tip #8: Rare deposits of dirt, clay, sand, and gravel can be found in shallow lakes and caves. These items can also be crafted from bones.
- Starter Tip #9: You can sit in a chair or on a bed by right-clicking it. To stand up again, simply walk forward. You must always stand up to teleport.
- Starter Tip #10: The majority of non-hostile mobs spawn only during specific periods of the year. Keep this in mind when hunting animals for resources.
