November - Last Month in Minetest
November was the 2022 Game jam month; there were some great submissions this year! Core devs worked on graphics and gamepad support. In late October, Minetest was used as an urban planning tool to engage students in their community’s planning process.

Re: November - Last Month in Minetest
I may not always comment about the blog posts, but I read them all.
This blog post was pretty extensive this time, good job. In this community, it's hard to get an overview of what is happening sometimes, so I appreciate that.

Nice going - the blog is definitely the best addition to the community in a long time.

Re: November - Last Month in Minetest
Big thanks to Rubenwardy and MisterE for this and prior editions. Many of us read but don't usually comment or contribute! I suppose for contributions we ought to look towards how magazines and community newspapers source their news. Regular correspondents for different areas might help, such as someone for the engine, someone for games, someone for transport & tech mods, someone for Servers, someone for Art projects and so on, basically the different headings that go into the blog post. Minetest as a community is pretty loosely affiliated and distributed across sites which makes it harder, so extra thanks for making the effort. I would also say maybe hot forum topics, highly upvoted reddit posts, reacted discord messages / major IRC discussions and so on might help for the major topics. The blog always manages to tell me something I missed too though, which is great, and it's often not the things that are on top of the trending metrics.

Re: November - Last Month in Minetest
Congratulations to the minetest Blog of November 2022.
I also suggest the server map(s) and textures could be added in the new blogs if possible.
Thank you very much for your work and help. 🤝

I will only share my suggestions. Personally I think minetest is a good product.rubenwardy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 10:15If you have some news, then you can submit it for the monthly post. See here: https://blog.minetest.net/about/
I am also waiting for a stable version which could do good for my personal business in the future if possible.
Thank you very much for your understanding. 🤝

Re: November - Last Month in Minetest
may i suggest something for future game jams? i think they're a great idea, and they seem to have led to the most productive spurts of game development for the engine, the problem is just that, it's spurts.
it's nearly impossible to create a fully fleshed out mature game in only 3 weeks, so, how about in the future, allow work to update and upgrade previous games as well, something like google summer of code does?
it could be a separate category, like the oscars do. best new game, and best game update/level up.
this way we're not left with a bunch of half-baked games which frankly leaves the whole minetest and its subgames leaving people who try them for the first time with a bad taste in their mouth.
i think most of us here know how many months and years of development it takes to make a fully matured game, so why not also award the devs who do the most to advance a pre-existing game? just like when we get new updates and we drool over the newly added updates in this release. it could be something like adding warden or pillagers(and the associated mods/weapons that that would bring) to the Mineclone games, for example, or new features entirely, like animals to ride for Mesecraft, which would be quite an undertaking in itself, comparable to making a new game, but in comparison, something which wouldn't be likely to be seen in a from scratch game in the game jam.
in addition to that, take every category of the content db, and have entries and awards for that. best new texture pack, best new mod, etc. and best new updates to textures, mods, etc. we all know that a lot of the best textures out there are very incomplete, but that's a lot of work to add new textures from the variety of mods out there and from different games and servers to make a fully compatible texture pack (for example), but the MT community would benefit so much from that.
instead we keep getting more and more amateurish buggy and far from complete projects. i welcome and appreciate them all, and as i said, the game jam is great, but a broader game jam to include lifting up existing projects would really enrich the MT library.

Sounds a lot like Sammy Awads.

oh that's really cool, i wasn't aware of the sammy awards, i'm glad to have brought up extending the game jam at least to have learned of them :-)
yes, they're similar but not exactly the same thing i was suggesting.
