Re: Post your screenshots!
Halloween. Yay. Pumpkins blotting out the sun. Now I want a Jack-o-lantern as the sun. Blot that out. Har har.
Because there are just too many pumpkins, and not enough of anything else.
The spaghetti bowl. Pathsv7, Roadsv7, Noisegrid mods by paramat. I wish the roads following the heightmap, instead of hard coded heights. Work to do....

A desert mountain. To be carved into mesas, as one would see in the American Southwest. Doable, for standard mapgens.

Red_King,
That's the spirit! I like the pumpkin moon, too. They both rock!
duane,
Can you PacMan that last pumpkin? His "Kilroy wuz here" half submerged head is begging for a PacMan mouth munching up the landscape. So appropriate to some recent comments about landscapes. It's funny as all h#11!
So this is what happens, when you set a biome stone layer to lava, and the fill and top layers to air. Not quite a volcano, but ideas come from simple experiments. Even bad experiments. FYI, I don't recommend any of these configs with the smoke mod. Great mod. Horrible lava lakes effects. Even Geomoria lava rooms had issues with smoke mod and too much smoke. But fun to watch, til it crashes.

Paths, roads, noisegrid, geomoria, roomgen, and valleys_c, on top of lib_materials / lib_ecology.

Me thinks, duane, you should remove the mg_valleys test, at the top of the code, so it'll run for all mapgens. These are still some of the best, standalone additional biomes available.

The overpasses would look much better if they were made of concrete I guess (there's a mod for concrete, though without textures), it would make them look more man-made than when they are made of stone.ShadMOrdre wrote:Noisegrid mods by paramat. The desert mountain is absolutely fantastic. I wish some settings allowing this kind of naturaistic terrain were included in some default mg.
Meanwhile some quite natural-looking landscapes from default v6.

Re: Post your screenshots!
I have very mixed feelings about adding highly realistic gfx to games like Minecraft or Minetest. Surely, if implemented properly, it would make gaming experience much more engaging and impressive, however this kind of somewhat abstract geometric environment don't necessarily need going in that direction - after all the worlds rendered by these games aren't meant to be photorealistic, and that's the point. And any improvement of this kind would probably mean that players would need to upgrade their hardware, which isn't in line with keeping this project available for all users whether they have top gfx card or not. Btw I play MT 5.0 an a laptop whithout gfx card and it runs very smoothly.Inocudom wrote: Better start taking Vulcan support seriously if you intend to make that official.
It's a problem a little similar to remaking old classic cartoons as 3d movies. If you are able to make perfect use of technology and have moreover a large team of highly skilled and talented specialists and artists, the results would be astounding:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbYO16VsfQ4
(In my opinion Looney Tunes 3D are by far the best computer-rendered 3D cartoons ever made, surpassing even the Ice Age series). However if you don't have resources to tackle such ambitious task, it's really better to stick to the more modest aims of improving performance within well known format.

Again, vulkan support isn't needed for simple graphical effects like reflections, and isn't a silver bullet to fix all our problemsInocudom wrote: Better start taking Vulcan support seriously if you intend to make that official.

Continuation of the large screenshots of default mapgens. V6 seems to be a little improved in MT 5, or I am just lucky to find a world with very pleasant, realistic ambience.

(I hope it wasn't posted yet, and if it was, at least the frame is different ;) )

The joy of FPGAs. It took me a while to work out the correct logic for this shift register, but here it is.
Behind each light stone, there's an FPGA which can be daisy-chained on the left or right side.

Comparing Mars (from marssurvive) to Titan (from titan_moon):

seed: `test`
Edit: Titan sand is now as deep as Mars sand (the above Titan image is now outdated).
I found another Mars-Titan comparison here on the forums from 6 years ago.
