[freepack] My quest to create a free Minecraft-style texture pack

by MCL » Post

Hello, today I have started working on a 100% free texture replacement for all the textures in Minecraft version Beta 1.7.3 (released 2011). It would be great for games like MineClone2 because the default textures are really ugly (in my opinion).

THE PACK IS CURRENTLY IN THE MINECRAFT FORMAT, AS IT WAS INITIALLY MADE AS A TEXTURE PACK FOR MINECRAFT SCREENSHOTS (TO AVOID COPYRIGHT ISSUES), YOU HAVE TO CONVERT IT FIRST!

did you copy the wool? The fire text looks really bad.
The lava looks to pixelated.
Edit: could you make this a downloadable texture pack?
If my post says something, it is a opinion and not fact unless i say something

As of 4/1/2022 almost every single texture is complete.
These look great MHL.

Why not give MHL a bit of support? Perhaps if you don't like certain textures why not make one yourself or suggest what could be done to improve them?

The wool, fire texture placeholder (!) and static lava fallback texture are all unmodified from Minecraft.

Then that is a copyright violation

They are not. All textures were made by me and are CC BY 4.0 International-licensed.

No, I made the wool textures myself. I just uploaded it as an attachment, but it's currently in Minecraft format, I will convert it to Minetest when I have some time.

If you wanted to use this in an existing game for Luanti? You would have to DIY it by splitting the images out into their own files and renaming them. I recommend getting a texturepack for your target game (Mineclonia or VoxeLibre) and finding out the file names from there. Those games have way too many mods to track down what all the texture names are from the source code (though tools like GNU Find may help).

Of course, there may exist a tool to convert old blocks-atlas files like the one in OP, but I don't know of one, sorry.
