Luanti 5.10.0 has been released!

Highlights

  • Redesigned the ContentDB GUI to show more information and make better use of space
  • Support for the modern glTF model format
  • Support for the Gettext translation file format
  • New visual effects (e.g. simple liquid reflections, translucent foliage)
  • Modding: Object observers API ("per-player entities")
  • Android: Support for keyboard/mouse controls, new grid menu for touchscreen controls

Which "luanti-5.10.0-XXXXX" download do I need?
  • Windows: win64 (common), win32 (old systems)
  • MacOS: macos. Note: M1+ users might need to sign the application before running.
  • Android: arm64-v8a (newer), armabi-v7a (more widely used), x86 (ChromeOS, budget), x86_64 (ChromeOS)
  • Linux: check for updates in your package manager (WIP)

Thank you very much for all this work !

It's so pleasant to see this project always going forward. This new update is really fantastic thanks to the new shaders. They also seem to be well optimised, because it run very smoothy on my semi-old computer. Thank you everyone involved in this beautiful project !

Thanks to everyone making this release possible, great job as always!

The most important thing to me of course is the Gettext translations support. I will definitely try that, soon.

Also the water shader looks nice, when having the default waving animation activated and the sun “reflects” on the surface. That’s a nice and welcoming modernization and I think I can ditch my hack to have leveled-below-node-topside static water because the new water visuals looks so much better!

The August and September update blog entry teased SSR for water reflections, though:

But SSR seems not to be activated in the 5.10.0 final release? (Tried with “Minetest Game”). Is there something I need to (de-)activate in order to have it work, or is it simply not available in this release?

The devs have set up for a new, faster release schedule, it seems to be working nicely.

SSR is not available in Luanti 5.10. It may become available in the future, but generally graphical features without piling up tech debt are unfortunately currently not very easy to do.

It kinda sucks how Bloom can't be changed anymore, bloom hurts my eyes but I want volumetric lighting.
