This is the old "LinuxGaming2" server from LazyJ

right now its "readonly" ... everyone can look and explore but everything is protected

i will only host the server ... i have not the manpower to moderate it ... only the "ryzen-laptop-power" to host it xD

If people are found who want to revive and moderate the server, I can remove the "freeze" again... > viewtopic.php?p=448328#p448328

history:

LinuxGaming2 (also known as LG or LG2) was one of the oldest server still running till 2024

it has a very active player base ... at least until the switch to minetest 5.x afaik

the old (original) thread from the old (original) server can be found here:

since the server runs under minetest 0.4.14 ... you should also use 0.4.14 ... i heard 0.4.17.1 has some graphical glitches

oh wow... i used to play linuxgaming while on the crappy iphone 5... i will wait for the server to be finished :)
will the account and stuff saved?

you mean in the future ?
sure ... but while the server is readonly you cant get much stuff anyway

or do you mean the stuff from the old server ?
if so: sadly no, the user accounts where not part of the backup the old admin uploaded

Edit: After lots of fiddling with it I got most of the kinks worked out and it's running nicely on my PC downstairs.

Hey, Walker. I'm trying to get this running locally but I'm having some issues with the mods and textures not rendering. I used to moderate this server but never tried running the backup myself. Would you mind helping me in getting it going?

nice it worked you for you in the end

i would LOVE to see this server back alive again
i hoped old moderators would call me as a team so i can disable the global protection
but first noone called me so far
and second do i have no way to even check if someone how calles me is really an old moderator or just a fake one

but, at least, it can stay as a moseum ... read-only but beautiful

Well shadowpawn84 is currently living without Internet though I've sent him a copy of the world. I haven't heard from klappspaten in years.

I too would love to see it back online. I've been playing around with getting it to run in the latest Luanti but I don't know even a little Lua to fix some of the mods. It does run (quite well I might add) but some things like the old oerkki blocks show up as unknown nodes and player skins make the server crash.

If you're interested, Walker, I've been working on getting lg2 updated to 5.14. I have most things working except for a few unknown nodes, most of which are doors. I'm using a crude lbm I copied and modified from modern doors to replace them.

if i understand you correct, you are planning to host it again as a server ?

or do you want me to keep hosting with you as stuff ?

i would be happy to host it for you and dome other guys when you get it running under 5.14.0

but even when not and we stay with 0.4.14 i would be happy to have some moderators to bring the server back to life (hint: as for right now its "read only*")

*) there is a huge area over the entire map so its basiclly "read only" ... but not 100%

I'm hosting it myself for the time being as LinuxGaming2.5. I've gotten most of the major stuff sorted out. Now I just need to figure out how to get players to stay long enough to actually play. I'm thinking maybe a new spawn area somewhere a little less locked down.

thats way i just rehosted it under 0.4.14 ... since 0.4.x is WAY more active then 5.x (because all the mobile client clones based on 0.4.x)

so yeah ... on 5.x you have not that much players at all

In my honest opinion the mobile players do not matter. Someone should hurry up and copy Minecraft and/or Multicraft's controls into our main app. That's the only better thing I can think of, the rest is a heap of improvements all the way up to 5.14 and soon 5.15.

This server will remain, however... but it will now forever remain "read only", like a kind of "historical museum".
So if you plan to "actively play on the server", you should go to the one hosted by ubuntuyou.
