It’s a nature update!

I've reworked all the trees.
Olive, banana, cocoa tree and coconut palm got new looks.
Every tree has its own trunk and leaves now. Previously, many trees had to share their trunk, which caused problems.
There is a new pear tree. Currently, it is very similar to the apple tree but it will gain some differences in future updates (I hope). The jungle tree will become the kaki tree bearing the kaki fruit.
All trees bear fruit or catkin, but not everything is edible.
The coconut now comes with an outer green shell, you must remove it first to get the large seed.
You can make chocolate from cocoa and coconut milk from coconuts.
Every tree species now has a "small" version that grows when a sapling does not have enough space to grow.

Flower and plant pots got an upgrade. Put seed in flower pot, and they grow, but not much further. Great to farm saplings. The flower pot now supports many extra plants.

The behavior of moss and vines was improved and is somewhat more realistic, but work on that is not finished.

Iron now got its own ingot and no longer smelts to steel. To get steel, you must craft a steel lump first.

Behind the scenes, more code reorganization happened to follow convention, but I made sure to maintain backwards compatibility. (See DEVELOPERS.md to read about my promises.) If any node or item became unknown, this is a bug, please report it!

A new era …
With this release begins a new era of Hades Revisited. The previous releases mostly focused on cleanup (because there was a LOT of technical debt) and there wasn’t really a direction. I am glad this phase is (mostly) over.

Now, I have finally put together a rough roadmap for this game, with many milestones, each with a single important topic. This helps me keep motivated and focused, instead of touching the game all over the place and never get anything done.

Thie game is now officially in Milestone 1: Plants and Nature. Here, I want to add a complete set of plants I (probably) want to see in the final game, and also complete the plant growth mechanics, so that everything works nicely together. This tree update was a first step, but more is to come.

I’ve decided the vegetation aspect of this game is probably the most important gameplay thing in the game, even more important than mining. This is the part to which all other concepts (mining, research, trading, decoration) will relate to. So I want to get this one right early.

In Milestone 2, I plan to do a research system. Here, I want to develop a progression system for the vegetation. You no longer have just a large cluster of plant species you can just craft, but instead have to progress through the species to progressively unlock more via research, from primitive to complex.

I have very high ambitions for this game, so wish me luck! :D

Highlights
  • Full tree rework: New kaki tree and pear tree, every tree bears fruit, new tree shapes for existing trees
  • No more generic "common trees" and "jungle trees" are over (renamed to apple/kaki)
  • Plant pot now grows seeds and supports more plants
  • Flower pot support more plants, and better
  • Better moss spread
  • Less erratic vine rot
  • Add iron ingot and various related blocks and items
Compatibility notes
  • No compatibility has been broken for the mods listed in DEVELOPERS.md (I hope)
  • Various items and nodes got reorganized (aliases have been provided for every item and node)
  • Olive, coconut and banana bud, flower and leaves now will only survive near their (new) matching tree trunk (so existing such trees will likely die because they used the "default" tree trunk/leaves)
  • Mod renamed: 'gluncarp' to 'hades_carpets'
  • Mod renamed 'columnia' to 'hades_columnia'
  • Mod renamed 'creative' to 'hades_creative'
  • Mod renamed 'signs_lib' to 'hades_signs'
  • Removed function: 'creative.is_enabled_for' (use core.is_enabled_for instead)
  • 'columnia' functions renamed to 'hades_columnia'
  • Removed table lamp (replaced with rusty lantern)
  • Cultivated jungle tree removed, is now kaki tree
  • IF ANYTHING BROKE FOR YOU, PLEASE REPORT
  • PLEASE REPORT ANY UNKNOWN NODES AND ITEMS

This release adds 4 new flowers. A common gray flower that can also grow on ash and sand.

And 3 rare pink, magenta and cyan flowers. Those rare flowers only bloom at one day per year, one for each season.

Crafting recipes have become more streamlined. The creation of coal has changed. You can cook wood, trunks and bark in the furnace to create a charred block instead. Cook it again to create coal. Cook the coal and you create volcanic ash.

Most flowering plants besides flowers now can be crafted to dyes as well, like flowering vines.

And there’s a bunch of other stuff.

Enjoy!
