I'm not really happy how rain works in most weather mods and Luanti games, including mine (Repixture, Lazarr!).
The usual approach is to just draw a raindrop texture, spawn a particlespawner somewhere above the player and let the rain droplet particles fall.
This works, but IMHO it looks only OK but not great. Spawning a LOT of particles is also a performance drain.
Any suggestions on how to make better-looking and/or better performing rain?
Oh, and another thing I consider super important is that it doesn't rain inside houses. ;-)
From M******t videos I also saw a effect of little spash effects appearing on the floor during rain. I tried to emulate this with spawning particles on the floor, but I never managed to find good particle settings.

Mineclonia dev repetitivestrain a.k.a halon has previously mentioned being quite proud of the rain in that game, so check that out if you haven't already. The main thing touted was that the rain in other games follows you quite closely and so flying on an elytra it became quite obvious..

Re: Better rain animation
For avoidance of doubt it I ought to clarify that for this to function, you must install the client-side mod and my version of Luanti, as the generation of rain particles is implemented in C++; it could probably be optimized further by moving the vertex position calculation into a shader, but I haven't had the time to explore this strategy yet.

And yes, needless to say, I am quite proud of it for having addressed one of my most enduring complaints with the state of existing weather facilities. For example, it observes biome transitions to a fault.

Re: Better rain animation
Yeah … I was looking more for a native approach tho.
But still thanks.
