Re: [Server] Tunnelers' Abyss
Six years ago today, the server was officially opened to the public! Thank you so much to our admins, moderators, and developers for their hard work to keep this server thriving, but most of all, thank you to our loyal community for being the heart of Tunnelers' Abyss and bringing new creativity every day!! Congrats on the 6th anniversary of Tunnelers' Abyss!!

Re: [Server] Tunnelers' Abyss
A small redesign at Spawn has taken place, most notably with the old Teleport Hub Portal & several other portals being replaced by a new one-stop shop: the Warp Zone! This will make things easier by having notable Spawn travel options in a single, convenient place.

Building options have now been enhanced even more, by several new updates by Diaeresis to close out 2025!
Our painting mod has been overhauled, with new options including blurring, more customization for brushes, and the ability to pick up & rotate paintings:

The new Holographic Projector allows you to project items and nodes through walls with customizable rotation and position, giving you unlimited creative possibilities:

Re: [Server] Tunnelers' Abyss
It sure would be nice if there were some wiki page on what ores need to be mined with. I ran across an ore called Osmium. It was at -511 deep. An iron pick axe doesn't do the job but I have no clue what might be able to mine it. Also, there's others I've seen in the public mines that are not mine-able with an iron pick. This is just causing frustration and wanting to server hop to someplace else.
Re: [Server] Tunnelers' Abyss
I've found the mining here to be very easy...aside from the spiders (Ugh!). Can't say that I used a steel pick more than a short time as I soon had diamond galore and the awards gave me even more advanced picks. But for sure steel is like stone picks here because there's a huge list of materials (~30!). So steel here is almost useless being close to the bottom of the list instead of in the middle as in default. At spawn there is a poster that actually ranks all the ores as tool ingredients. It's not well advertised but if you look around spawn you'll run across it inside a water/glass house or something.botch wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2026 15:55It sure would be nice if there were some wiki page on what ores need to be mined with. There is a comparative list of ore strength on a wall inside a building at the spawn.botch wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2026 15:55It sure would be nice if there were some wiki page on what ores need to be mined with. If I remember aright, it is a bizarre building behind the Admins' Shop.
Just walk around the spawn, or ask people in the game chat.
Reading the ore strength list, be aware that you do not need to use always a stronger (or equal) tool to mine an ore.
Usually, a weaker tool will be suitable, too. For example, rarium is weaker than titanium, but you can dig titanium ore by a rarium pickaxe. Of course, the difference in strength between ore and a weaker (yet suitable) tool will be small.
Also, I know that a rarium pickaxe can mine any ore in the game.
You can buy such a pickaxe in a shop, if you are quite rich.
This system of ore strength should not cause frustration.
This is a very wise and interesting part of the game!
You can mine an ore using only a tool with an appropriate strength. This is a just rule!
Iron is not strong enough to be a good metal for tools in the game.
The server has a wide choice of tool materials - diamond, mithril, titanium, rarium, etc, a very long list.
Also you can craft industrial tools like drills and lasers, and architect digtrons:)
Industrial tools and digtron heads cut any ore in the game.
So, a player should look through the list of ore strength, before descending into a mining shaft, or just play intuitively, trying tools made of seemingly strong materials, for example, diamond.
The game on this server is neither fast nor easy. You should explore and study the game world. And you have to use sundry tools and machines. Yes, exactly electrical machines! Of course, you can not obtain all metals and chemical elements in the game only by an iron pickaxe!
That is why this server is the best technical server over the list of online minetest servers, in my opinion.
