Nice natural biome and landscape generation in Caparthian and Valleys, not comparable to weird unnatural landscapes in Minecraft.

Direct contact to the developers of mods and games is possible through forum. I like the classical early 2000s way of internet communication without all those social media stuff and short messagers like discord.

I've been around since 2016,new account cause lost password. I've heard many complaints about this forum but I think it works just fine. This is a great hub for direct contact.

Simple program structure, no installation, just copy. You can load it on a USB stick, Mobile Phone or MP3 Player and give it to other people easily.

If you dont like the content, you can edit it yourself, if the license allows it. And many things here are under a license that allows it to copy, edit and transform content of other users.

Even if you don't want to accept it, you are supporting M$ by using GitHub.

But more advantages:
  • No central control(you can't be banned from all of MT)
  • Good free MC alternative after 10 years development
  • some MC to MT converter(texture pack, worlds)
  • Run on older Computers then MC too

One should differentiate between "accept" or "denial" and "like" and "dislike" in the above, I presume.

Basically, I only use GitHub for fun and certainly to have fun with Minetest.

Furthermore, I have intentionally listed (and freshly updated) some points in my account and my below signature field to promote my fun with FOSS in general and this Minetest project in particular. Last addition is the most beloved Lurker (see link below) which only recently was brought to my attention again.

IMO one cannot fight a system. One can either use it or misuse it for one's own purposes or would become both ignored and made irrelevant.

My five cents.

Have fun with Minetest.

For this reason I don't have a GitHub account (but use GitHub to download because of the many open source projects 😟).

I've been both a Minetest and Minecraft mod (and datapack) developer, and played a lot of modded minetest, minecraft, and terraria.
I'll exclude everything regarding "open source vs proprietary"; others have said it all.

Everyone knows this, but by far minetest's greatest pro (well, ok, the super friendly community is also an enormous pro :D ) is official modding support. It makes development painless compared to other games. And that only helps the player base.

Official modding support makes minetest absolutely unparalleled in:
  • Ease of mod development.
    - A core-dev specialized modding API is objectively much simpler for mod creation than Minecraft's third party APIs (let alone the chaotic art of datapack development).
    - Crash logs are reliable, convenient, and concise.
    - Minetest has a failsafe when worlds temporarily get loaded with missing mods, rather than simply voiding all pertaining entities, nodes, items, and data.
  • Long-term mod reliability.
    - Minetest mods almost never break with updates, and if they do it is only because the core dev-team determined it was necessary for some improvement. (unlike *cough* that other game *cough*)
    - Most mods for everything eventually get abandoned. How wonderful it is, then, that abandoned minetest mods rot so slowly!
  • QoL traversing the mod ecosystem.
    - Mods are very nice to each other, so mixing mods that were not tested with each other (usually) results in fewer technical problems than with unofficial mod systems.
    - Mods are (basically) all listed in neat order in the forums.
    - The highest quality mods are easily perused and downloaded through one central community respected location: ContentDB.
    - Mods and modpacks can be managed (and in latest versions, even downloaded) directly in the launcher.
    - Server mods are downloaded and applied automatically.
    - Akin to Minecraft datapacks, mods are not loaded on client but rather as-needed. You can change between servers and worlds that have different mod lists without having separate profiles and with no reloading and no hassle at all.
The great quest of alchemy neither failed nor attained gold; programmers are those great alchemists who transmute caffeine into code.

It's addicting to mine down trough all the caves. Many thousands of negative Y. Even without caverealms, light up some big cave with torches - it looks amazing and brings peace to the minds. Minetest is vertical!

Your forgetting to mention the Minetest community, that's a pro for sure.
