mt-5.9.0 no transparency & screenshot corruption

i thought this was a issue w the visual effex vol 1 , but then i build std mt and

Does this issue persist in version 5.9.1?

These vt spaces were transparent and went black after 5.8-5.9 switch, which makes my new blush look like some kind of voidgrass unless I roll it all back, which is a pity because I pride myself in staying up to date with our games. Any clue what changed that we had to drop transparency in texture mapping?

That just looks like the same issue that a lot of mods had when moving to 5.9: you need to use the string values for use_texture_alpha instead of true/false.
