Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
Missing option for 5.10.0-dev. That would actually be interesting to see how many people are testing development builds.
Look, I programmed a bug for you. >> Mod Search Engine << - Mods by Krock - DuckDuckGo mod search bang: !mtmod <keyword here>
Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
Would have added that but only allowed 10 options.

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
The core devs made the decision that 5.0 onward would not be able to connect with 0.4 servers.

@sorcerykid - never realised they were still up and active, 16 in use from what I see :)

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
Is there a reason why it's 0.4.15 specifically, and not 0.4.16, 0.4.17 or 0.4.17.1?sorcerykid wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 16:38The core devs made the decision that 5.0 onward would not be able to connect with 0.4 servers.

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
0.4.x has many known security vulnerabilities at this point including remote code execution, I don't recommend using it at all. Even if you patch them, your users probably won't. 5.x has received so many quality of life improvements and new capabilities that I can't imagine going back
But whatever, it's great that you can use what you want with open source :)

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
The most annoying thing about 0.4.x is that jumping mechanics has been changed between 0.4.15 and 0.4.17.
And it's controlled by the client, so you can't build climbing walls, wall elevators etc. that work for everyone.

Do you mean the sneak glitch?
I also like this bug feature.
It can still be enabled by overwriting the physics, e.g. use this mod: viewtopic.php?t=17734 https://content.minetest.net/packages/K ... ak_glitch/
Can your read this?
Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
@iisu - We used that feature so much on Xanadu that I added a setting to PlayerPlus to re-enable it.

Re: Menu improvement
I think we need to improve the menu.
Re: Menu improvement
Yes, we do, see here: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/6733

I looked at it, sorry, but when will the new menu be released? 2024 or 2025cx384 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 23:49Yes, we do, see here: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/6733

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
So if I understand correctly, the sneak glitch was removed in 0.4.16, but it was reimplemented with mods/a setting was added to enable it.cx384 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 20:40Do you mean the sneak glitch?

The thing is the "new" sneak glitch behaves differently than the old one. For example, on 0.4.17 I can sneak glitch on corners of solid walls if there's a sneak ladder hidden in the corner.
Code: Select all
|SW| S - sneak ladder; W - wall
|WX| X - stand here
And in tight shafts I get stuck on nearby blocks on 0.4.17 where other players can move smoothly.
If mods can change player physics like that, does it mean they can be used to ensure uniform physics across client versions? Can those mods affect older clients too?
PS some servers instead of reintroducing the "bug" opted for more creative solutions like climbing picks. ;)

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
This poll sucks. The true divide is not between 5.8 and 5.9, but between 0.4.X and 5.X.X.
Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
@Wuzzy - I'm asking because it would be handy to know which is the lowest version of Minetest 5.x that players are using for a modding baseline. It seems that 0.4.x only has 14 servers listed and are dwindling slowly.

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
"Minimum version" gets discussed a fair bit. My rule of thumb would usually be something like what version is shipped with the current stable Debian or Ubuntu, whichever is older.

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
@Blockhead - In that case 5.4.1 would be the minimum for most, thanks Blockhead :)

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
My personal support policy is previous two stable versions. So 5.8.0+. If it happens to work on earlier versions that's fine too, I don't break it for no reason
Debian's software is just way too outdated, we recommend that users on Debian LTS use the flatpak to install Minetest (or appimage... if we actually made on officially)

Debian stable has Minetest 5.6.1

Re: Which Minetest Version Do You Use ?
@rubenwardy - I was looking at the majority of distro's based on ubuntu 22.04 with version 5.4.1 in the repo, although 5.3 is a good base to start with too, aiming for 5.6 where possible :P
