Even if Adravox or myriad alternative names were theoretically superior, Luanti can't feasibly rebrand for at least another few years yet.
Well, in a few years, I hope people will look around. Luanti sounds like a name people settled on after too much debate. It is, however, the perfect name for an anti-Lua organization.
I've been out of the loop with personal priorities for a few years. Were polls taken, and was there a suggestion period?
But, I guess the name could be Stink Muppet and it wouldn't matter. This game has always been more attractive for the players and the servers than the name.
Luanti is interesting name. Based on previous replies I am hoping mods will be programmed in C++ in future!
Off subject: Years ago, when I was integrating PostgreSQL and Memcached into the server, I had some success creating "extensions" as shared objects, which could add functionality to the Lua API. These extensions would be comparable to those loaded into PHP or similar. I could work on that again if there were interest. Currently, I'm looking into gRPC and middleware for backend storage as an option. I have also created a map generation farm using only mods where many servers are used only for map block emergence while the player server handles everything else.
It's finally time. After years of deliberation, Minetest is finally ready to adopt a new identity and prove it has moved beyond its original purpose. We can finally move past the "mining" and the "testing" and focus on making this platform the best it can be.
You know, I think now would be a good time to trademark the new name, ..to prevent "issues" of a certain nature which some of us are aware of..
It's not a costly or difficult process, and would be a good move, ..although doing so would need to be done in a manner which doesn't cause too much difficulty for those who want to share videos, etc. related to any of this,
.. although as I pointed out in another post, there are plenty of people sharing videos of other trademarked software throughout the web with no real issues.
I kinda agree with this unique name, and makes sense like luanti kinda sounds "luonti" in Finnish, and translated as "creation" in English, and matches up programming language called "Lua" into its name - yet the creator celeron55 is from finland. And that's why it is called "Luanti".
