jp (kilbith) and I have been working on adding hypertext support to Luanti for a while now. This will allow games and mods to enhance tooltips with more eye-candy.

Above PR is basically finished, we’re basically waiting for reviews.

If this gets approved, the following features will be added:

• Adds a new formspec element called hypertip which is like a tooltip, but for hypertext
• Hypertext tooltips support all formatting options that normal hypertext boxes support as well, except clickable links: Bold, italic, underlined mono font, text size, embedded images and more
• Dynamic and static hypertext tooltips: Dynamic ones move with your cursor, static ones are placed at fixed coordinates in the formspec
• Customizable background image (with 9-slicing support)
• Set the tooltip width in typographic em units
